It lies on the shoulder of the hill known as Taşaltı, which appears on the left side as you enter the city of Ainos.
In front of the necropolis there are monumental graves, sarcophagi on pedestals, and a hero’s monument. Even though the monuments date back to the 5th and 4th centuries B.C., the sarcophagi among them date back to the Late Hellenistic, and Early Roman periods. Behind the front burial ground, on the shoulder of the hill, there are burial layers dating back to the periods between Early Roman and Early Christianity. Beside important finds from graves and sarcophagi there are grave stellae (tombstones) with depictions of banquet scenes on them.
